MBA Storm girls down the Dragons

The Morris Benson Area girls' hockey team shut out Litchfield/ Dassel-Cokato 6-0 Tuesday in Benson. It was the second match up of the season for the two teams, and the Storm's second victory over the Dragons.

The Storm came out and played a very strong first period taking a 4-0 lead.

Ten minutes into the game, Dani Schultz got the Storm started with assists from Brooke Anderson and Monica Lindblad.

Dani Staples scored unassisted just 1:11 later.

Sam Falk scored two in the period.

Falk's first goal was off a Schultz pass while short handed and the second came with assists from Schultz and Anderson.

The Storm added one goal in each of the next two periods.

In the second, Sara Rajewsky scored unassisted on a power play.

Staples scored her second goal in the third period with an assist from Schultz, while the Storm held a power-play advantage.

Brooke Falk made 18 saves for the Storm. The Dragon goalie stopped 41 Storm shots.

It was Falk's second shut-out in back-to-back games.

"She is playing some of her best hockey," said coach Jeff Mahoney.

"The defense played a very strong offensive game," said Mahoney. Meanwhile, "The dragons were bit by the penalty bug and a slow start.

"You just have to come and watch this team," said Mahoney. "They are passing and skating so well as they continue to win. They are just awesome to watch as they continue to gel as a team."

The Storm have two upcoming home games. Senior night is set for Thursday, Jan. 22 in Morris. Parent night will be held in Benson on Saturday, Jan. 24
