The aggressive Morris Benson Area Storm girls’ hockey team took on the Bears from Lake of the Woods, for the second time this season, last Friday, Jan. 17. This time the Bears came into Storm territory, hoping to avenge an early season defeat on their home turf. That wasn’t the case in this low scoring game as the Bears got swept away by the Storm 2-1 in Morris.

The Bears got on the board first with a goal by Jaiden Dahl just three minutes into the first period and that’s how the Storm went into the first intermission, trailing 1-0.

The Storm came out of the break fired up and ready to take back the game. Despite a rougher period than most with penalties, starting forward Kayla Benson found the net on an unassisted goal to tie the game 1-all in the second. The game remained tied for the next fifteen minutes before the Storms’ Nicole Berens decided enough was enough and sent the puck sailing into the net with just under 10 minutes left in the game to put the Storm up 2-1. The Storm held that lead for the win.

The Storm girls are back on the home ice on Tuesday, Jan. 21 in Morris. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. as the Storm takes on Detroit Lakes. Then, on Friday, Jan. 24, the girls and boys play a rescheduled match up against Worthington in Morris. The girls face off at 5 p.m. on Friday night. The Storm hosts more home games, in Benson, on Saturday, Jan. 25 and Tuesday, Jan. 28. Saturday, the Storm will host Luverne, and on Tuesday, Jan. 28, the Tigers from Marshall come to town to face the Storm.
