The Morris Benson Area Storm boy’s hockey team faced off in Benson against Prairie Centre on Thursday, Dec. 19.

Prairie Centre is a cooperative team that consists of players from Browerville, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Melrose and Sauk Centre, so needless to say they have a lot of ranging talent with a current 6-3 record after last night’s win over the Storm. The Storm fell to Prairie Centre 6-2.

Prairie Centre got on the board first with a goal by Zack Pierskalla in just 2:17 into the first quarter. The Storm answered with an unassisted goal at 7:52 by Corey Goff to tie the game at one. The game stayed tied until the end of the quarter when Prairie Centre fired two past goalie Kyle Kennedy to end the first with the Storm trailing 3-1.

Second period was quiet until just over 10 minutes in when Corey Storck got the Storms second goal of the night. Cole Watzke and Taner Gimberlin got credit for the assist on the Storck goal. The second period ended with the Storm down by one goal 3-2.

In the third period, Prairie Centre came out skating faster and more aggressive on offense, having a 14-6 shot advantage in the third alone and 41-20 advantage in the entire game. Prairie Centre’s Cody Steward added his second goal on the night to put the North Stars up 4-2. After that the Storm spent nine minutes in the penalty box, and the North Stars took full advantage of the Storm being down a player or two, scoring their last two goals off of power plays. Steward scored one of the power play goals, his second goal of the period and third goal in the game, ending with a hat trick, in the 6-2 victory over the Storm.

Next, the Storm is set to host Kittson Central in Morris on Saturday, Dec. 21. The puck will drop at 4:30 p.m. for varsity.
