Windom edges Storm
Brooke Kern, Sun Tribune
Morris Benson Area Storm played a physical game against the Windom Area Eagles last Saturday, Dec. 7 in Benson. Being physical just wasn’t enough as the Windom Eagles took the win 4-3 with a late goal in the third period.
Minus some roughing penalties, the first period was quiet with no goals allowed by either team.
Second period being a little more physical added a little more action. The Storm got on the board first with a score at 5:29 by Taner Gimberlin assisted by Corey Goff. Gimberlin and Goff are the two point leaders for the Storm for far this season. Windom answered with a goal of their own just under halfway through the second period. Twenty seconds into a power play, Zach Bartosh got a pass from Dylan Pigman to tie the game up at one.
The third period was the most action-packed and physical for both teams. Windom had 12 minutes in penalties in the third period, including a 10-minute misconduct penalty at 7:31.
Scoring first in the third was Mitchell Macek for the Eagles to take a 2-1 lead over the Storm. Bartosh scored a second time for the Eagles at 8:02, but that goal was quickly answered by an unassisted goal by Storm player Lincoln Pahl to keep the Storm in the game. Goff added another goal when he got a pass from Tanner Mikkelson to tie the game 3-3. At 12:15, Bartosh got his hat trick goal on the night for the victory 4-3 over the Storm.
The Storm now take on River Lakes, a late add to their schedule, at the Benson Civic Center Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. The Storm then spends the rest of the week practicing to take on the undefeated Luverne Cardinals at the Blue Mound Ice Arena in Luverne on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m.
