Tiger football kicks off Friday

Athletes from Morris Area and Chokio-Alberta reported to football practice on Aug. 15 beginning the first season of a pairing in the sport. Football was the last sport to be paired with Morris Area.

Also joining the team this season as an assistant is long-time Spartan head coach Neal Hofland. He will combine forces with Tiger head coach Jerry Witt to bring an impressive amount of experience to the sidelines.

The Tigers lost a large corps of players to graduation, but this season's seniors and juniors saw playing time last year and are ready to defend the Tigers' West Central Conference South title. Leading the team this season are captains Wade Ehlers, Tyler Moser, and Tim Ostby.

The season kicks off Friday, Sept. 2 at Minnewaska. The rest of the regular-season schedule features many of the same teams as in 2010 including New London-Spicer, Benson, Paynesville, Lac qui Parle Valley, and BOLD. Long Prairie-Grey Eagle is no longer a member of the conference, making room to play Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City and Yellow Medicine East. The usual rival Montevideo is not scheduled to play the Tigers.
