Tigers suffer 1st loss at hands of Bulldogs
Jason Kampsen slugged two home runs and with the help of 12 strikeouts he also got the win on the pitcher's mound as Paynesville edged Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 4-3 in a West Central Conference South game Tuesday.
Kampsen drove in three of the Bulldogs' runs to give himself just enough support on the mound as Tiger starter Alex Erickson was equally as tough on the mound by holding Paynesville hitless over the last four innings.
Kampsen launched a solo home run in the first and capped the Paynesville scoring by hitting a two-run homer in the third. Kyle Wolters' single in the second drove in the other run for the Bulldogs.
Kampsen had to work out of two jams late in the game as the Tigers left the bases loaded in the sixth and seventh. Ryan Beyer doubled and Eric Riley drew an intentional walk in the seventh, but Kampsen induced an infield popup and recorded a strikeout to end the game and hand the Tigers their first loss of the season.
Kampsen shook off six walks and six hits while Erickson struck out eight and didn't issue a walk in his complete-game performance.
Tyler Hansen went 3-for-3 and homered to lead off the home half of the first for the Tigers. Beyer added two doubles and Travis Rinkenberger drew a walk with the bases loaded in the sixth. Eric Riley was 1-for-3.
