Breckenridge/Wahpeton defeated Morris Benson Area, 7-3, in boys hockey action Thursday, Jan. 11 at the Lee Community Center in Morris. The Blades' Hunter Rittenour had a hat trick in the first two periods to provide plenty of offense.

After the Blades held a 2-0 lead after the first intermission, MBA's Mathew Tolifson found a way to score early in the second frame, unassisted. That goal was answered midway through the second as Rittenour scored his second goal of the game. MBA's leading scorer on the season, freshman Zach Bruns found the net, shorthanded, off a rebound to answer the Rittenour goal under two minutes later. Isaac Wohlers scored his first of two goals of the night on a power play then Rittenour completed his hat trick at the 12:58 mark in the period off an assist from Jase Jensen and Wohlers.

After five goals in the second frame, the Blades held a three goal lead heading into the final period. The teams exchanged goals in the first seven minutes of the period. Bruns added his second unassisted goal of the game at the 3:38 mark in the third then Wohlers scored his second of the game midway through the period. A goal at 11:45 by Breckenridge/Wahpeton's Nolan Wamre, his second of the game, gave the Blades a 7-3 win.

Both teams had four penalties in the game, but the significance was that the Blades spend just eight minutes in the box whereas Morris Benson Area tallied 19 minutes in the box, 15 of which was spent by Ashford Swenson, who had a five-minute major checking from behind penalty and a 10-minute game misconduct penalty late in the third period.

The Storm is next at Fairmont Saturday, Jan. 13 then MBA hosts Mayville-Portland Tuesday, Jan. 16 in Morris.
