31 Cougars earn UMAC academic awards

Thirty-one student athletes from the University of Minnesota, Morris have received Upper Midwest Athletic Conference fall sports academic all-conference awards.

The Cougar women's soccer team led the way with 10, volleyball and football each had six, women's cross country had four, men's golf and men's cross country each had two, and men's soccer had one.

Earning academic all-conference honors were:

Women's soccer - Jaima Solie (Mahtomedi), Alicia Mengelkoch (Minneapolis), Maddy Gerber (Mahtomedi), Jenny Baga (Duluth), Emily Croaston (Minneapolis), Ashley Simpson (Broomfield, Colo.), Andrea Lund, (Bloomington), Aimee Murray (Rochester), Amber Dziengel (Villard) and Andrea Carroll-Franck (St. Paul).

Volleyball - Jonna Maas (Walnut Grove), Melissa Weller (Belgrade), Sam Wahl (Watertown, S.D.), Tara Connolly (Danvers), Brittany Kill (Alberta) and Briana Czer (New Ulm).

Football - Matt Harren (Eagle Bend), Ryan Stoick (Morris), Nathan Wood (Sr., Eagle Bend), Brady Janzen (Mountain Lake), Michael Terrell (Tracy, Calif.), Kevin Pope (Ely).

Women's cross country - Allison Betsch (New Ulm), Nicole Gallagher (Buffalo), Carla Steinbring (Champlin), Miranda Jans (Buffalo).

Men's golf - Tom Cathers (Mound), Sam Trojan (St. Paul).

Men's cross country - Dan Dutcher (Vadnais Heights), Scott Harder (Mountain Lake).

Men's soccer - Matt Johantgen (Ramsey).

Last year Morris had 22 student athletes earn conference academic all-conference honors.

The individual athletes selected must post a 3.50 or better semester grade point average based on a 4.0 scale; complete two previous academic semesters at the nominating UMAC institution; and compete in the sport in which he or she is nominated in the season that corresponds with the selection.
