Cougars land three on All-UMAC team
Three University of Minnesota, Morris newcomers earned spots on the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference volleyball team for 2009 as voted by conference coaches.
Middle hitters junior Megan Theis and first-year player Allie Humphrey were named to the first team. Theis, a transfer from North Dakota State College of Science, led the Cougars with 243 kills this season with a hitting percentage of .202, third best on the team. She also recorded 56 blocks, second only to Humphrey who had 57 while recording 213 kills at a team-high .254.
First-year Stephanie Schmiesing, an outside hitter, was given honorable mention for her season which included 172 kills, a .212 hitting percentage, and 45 blocks.
These three players, and several others, contributed to a 15-15 record this season, a six-game improvement over 2008, and a UMAC semi-final appearance.
