Amateur Baseball: Orphans edged by Rox in opener

The Hancock Orphans were edged 6-5 in 10 innings by the Ortonville Rox in the 2018 town team baseball opener Saturday, May 12 in Ortonville.

Ross Haugen, Spencer Kidder, and Brendon Foss all had two hits apiece in the loss.

Player coach Rick Jepma said the team looks good this year, but it might take a few games to "knock the rust off."

"We are hoping to make a run [in the playoffs] again this year, hopefully we'll be playing our best baseball at the end of the year like last year," Jepma said.

The Orphans open the home season Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20 against Cottonwood and Clinton, respectively. First pitch at 2 p.m. both days.
