UMAC basketball teams set to battle for NCAA Tournament berth

Four teams became two in both the men's and women's UMAC Basketball Tournament semifinals on Wednesday evening. 

In men's action the No. 1 seed Northwestern College outlasted the fourth-seeded University of Minnesota, Morris 83-80 to give the Eagles a berth in Saturday's tournament championship game on their home court.  The Eagles will face second-seeded Bethany Lutheran College who defeated North Central University 83-67 in Wednesday's semifinal.  The Eagles and the Vikings will meet in Saturday's UMAC Tournament Championship for the second straight year with the winner advancing to the NCAA Tournament.  Tipoff if scheduled for 7 p.m. in St. Paul.

The women's semifinals featured upsets in which the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds were eliminated from the tournament.  Third-seeded Martin Luther College earned a spot in Saturday's UMAC Tournament Championship by defeating No. 2 seed Northwestern College 78-72.  In the second women's semifinal of the evening the fourth-seeded College of St. Scholastica outlasted the UMAC regular-season champion and top seed Minnesota Morris in an overtime thriller by a final score of 83-78.  The Knights and Saints will meet in Saturday's championship game at 7 p.m. on Martin Luther's home court with the winner earning a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
