Four Cougars score in double digits in Crown victory

The University of Minnesota, Morris men's basketball team picked up an 87-38 win over Crown College Tuesday on the road.

The win improved the Cougars' record to 8-10 and 4-4 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.

Four Cougars were in double figures, led by Tyler Pendleton who had a game-high 14 points coming off the bench.

Joe Roggenbuck had a career-high 10 points in 12 minutes off the bench. Ben Hoidal had 12 points off the bench on 5-for-8 shooting.

Steve Birman led all starters with 11 points.

The defense held UMAC Player of the Week Anthony DiLoreto to just eight points.

Much like their first meeting, the story was turnovers. The Cougars forced 17 turnovers and turned them into 14 points. UMM outscored the Storm 42-20 in the paint and the bench outscored Crown 50-22.

As a team UMM shot 53.3 percent from the field, going 16-of-30 in both halves. Defensively, they held the Storm to just 26.5 percent from the field and just 1-of-15 from three-point range.

Early in the first half Crown was able to stay close, trailing by just two, 12-10, with 12:37 left in the half. The Cougars took over after that going on a 30-5 run over the next 11:04 to take a 42-15 lead.

Pendleton had all 14 of his points in the first half on 5-of-7 shooting and was 4-of-6 from three-point land.

The second half was a little more competitive as the Cougars relied heavily on their reserves in the final 20 minutes. The bench outscored the starters 31-11 in the second half as the Cougars coasted to the 87-38 win.

On Friday the Cougars will be back on the road as they take on North Central at 7:30 p.m. The following day UMM will take on the UMAC leaders Northwestern at 5 p.m.
