Cougar men pick up big win over Comets

The University of Minnesota, Morris men's basketball team picked up its biggest win of the season by defeating Mayville State 75-58 Friday at home.

The Cougars' bench came up big as they scored 44 of the 75 points.

Tyler Pendleton did not miss scoring a career-high 17 points, including four three pointers. Ben Hoidal added 15 points and Brendon Foss added 11 for the Cougars.

Minnesota Morris shot 63.4 percent; they were 12-of-17 in the first half including going 5-of-7 from behind the three-point arc. The hot shooting led to a 39-23 halftime lead. The lead expanded to 19 in the first half as Pendleton's third three pointer gave UMM the 39-20 lead.

The Cougars built up their lead in the second half as they outscored Mayville 12-3 in the first five and a half minutes to take a 25-point lead. It would be their largest lead of the game as the Comets could not get any closer than 12 in the second half. The Cougars countered the Comets after they had cut the lead to 12 with a 6-0 run and over the next two minutes to clinch the win.

The Cougars travel to take on the St. John's Jonnies at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in their final game in the year
