Tigers drop season opener to Jaguars

A second-half rally that actually got started late in the first half allowed Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa to grind out a 53-46, non-conference win over visiting Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tuesday.

The Tigers, playing in their opener, were in front 26-19 at one point before B-B-E scored the final two buckets of the first half to go into the locker room down only 26-23.

The teams fought to a 37-all tie midway through the second half before B-B-E pulled ahead 39-37, a score that would stand for about five minutes before the Jaguars pulled away by getting some fastbreak baskets and sinking their free throws.

Jacob Torgerson had 12 points and Logan Manska 10 to pace the Tigers, who got within two with three minutes left in the game.

Billy Borgerding paced B-B-E with 18 points and Brian Goodwin added 13 more. Goodwin was 6-for-6 at the foul line down the stretch and had 10 points in the second half. James Kuefler netted eight of his 12 points in the second-half comeback.
