Cougar women down UMAC favorite

Christina Mollan's eighth minute goal was all the University of Minnesota, Morris would need to defeat the preseason Upper Midwest Athletic Conference favorite St. Scholastica on the road Saturday afternoon 1-0.

After being outscored 6-0 in their first two games of the season, the Cougars have won three straight, outscoring opponents 9-0 in that span.

The win snapped St. Scholastica's 99-match winning streak in the UMAC. The last time they lost a UMAC match previously was in 2003 when UMM beat them 2-1.

Rikki Beaver earned her third straight shutout by stopping all six Scholastica shots on net. UMM had just that lone Mollan shot on net, but it was all they would need in the end taking the match 1-0.

UMM will now take on Martin Luther at home on September 20.
