Tiger volleyball team opens season at home

Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta opened the 2012 volleyball season with a 3-0 loss to Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Thursday at home.

The Tigers lost five seniors from last season's roster, but have seven returning players with varsity experience. They are seniors Sadie Fischer, Katie Holzheimer, and Mikaela Henrichs, and juniors Nicole Strobel, Paige Schieler, Sydney Engebretson, and Brooke Johnson.

The nonconference loss to the Jaguars, a team that played in the section final last season, broke in the rest of the Tigers' varsity roster.

Coach Caleb Greene returns for his fourth season. B-squad coach Heather Montonye will again assist Greene, with new comer Katie Van Kempen as C-squad coach.

Taylor Braegelman had 12 kills to help the Jaguars sweep the Tigers.

Sydney Engebretson led the Tigers with eight kills.
