Morris Legion to play for district title

MONTEVIDEO -- Morris Legion pitcher Jacob Torgerson threw a three-hit shutout as Post 29 downed Montevideo 6-0 on Thursday night in winners' bracket final of the District 7, Division II Legion tournament.

Morris, the tournament's top seed, landed a spot in Saturday's championship game while Montevideo plays Eden Valley-Watkins in an elimination game at 6:30 p.m. today. The winner of that game plays Morris at 11 a.m. Saturday in Montevideo.

Torgerson was on top of his game from the start and Montevideo helped out Morris by committing four errors. Torgerson worked all seven innings, didn't allow a walk and struck out three.

Morris scored twice in the first inning, added a run in the third and tacked on three insurance runs in the fifth.

Morris' Tanner Picht had three hits, including a triple and a double, and he scored two runs. Torgerson and Mac Beyer both had two hits, and Chandler Erickson and Beyer both drove in two runs.

Joe Bednar, Tanner Lindemann and Austin Hoehne managed Montevideo's only hits off Torgerson.
