Entire boys' golf team to return next season

Jacob Zosel and Jordan Kolden earned All-West Central Conference honors in golf.

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta boys' golf team wrapped up the 2012 season third in the West Central Conference South standings.

Four golfers scored consistently all season long. Juniors Jordan Kolden, Zach Giese, and Andrew Rentz, along with seventh grader Jacob Zosel, finished the season in the top 32 of the conference.

The Tigers were led by Kolden who earned all-conference honors, missing first place by one stroke. Twice Kolden was the medalist at conference meets. He averaged a 38.16.

"Jordan's short game was sharp," said coach Jerry Witt.

Zosel also earned all-conference honors, finishing in 12th place with a 41.66 average score.

"Adding a consistent fourth scorer made a difference," added Witt.

Rentz was 19th and Giese was 26th in the conference.

"Andrew improved most from last season," said Witt. "Zach came on strong in the end."

Kolden and Rentz went on to represent the Tigers at the Section 3AA tournament. Kolden missed a trip to state by one stroke.

"Jordan had a one-stroke heartache in the conference and at play-offs," Witt explained. "You've got to have a short memory when you're a golfer."

Witt expects good things next season when the entire team returns to compete in a larger West Central Conference field.
