Tigers need win to stay alive in Section 3AA

Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta suffered a 10-0 shut out in six innings from New Ulm Saturday at American Legion Field in Marshall.

The Tigers will face Fairmont again Tuesday in Marshall in the Section 3AA loser's bracket. Fairmont eliminated Marshall 5-4 in eight innings. The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to the championship game, but will need to defeat undefeated New Ulm twice.

The Tigers had several chances to score, leaving runners stranded in a couple innings.

Chandler Erickson and Tyler Henrichs each singled for the Tigers with two outs in the top half of the first inning, but the Eagles' Chase Meyer was able to strike Mac Beyer out looking to end the inning.

New Ulm got on the board in the second inning when Connor Stark led off with an infield single and came around to score on a double by Dylan Schreckenberg.

Meyer found himself in another jam in the third inning after walking Tom Holland and giving up a double to Tanner Picht. With runners on second and third, Matt Bergmann cut down the tying run at the plate for the second out of the inning. Meyer then retired Beyer to end the inning.

Meyer pitched in and out of trouble in his three scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and three walks, while picking up three strikeouts and stranding five runners on base.

The Tigers committed four errors in the fourth, allowing New Ulm to score three runs on just one hit.

Stark led off the fourth inning with a single and later scored when Schreckenberg reached on a fielder's choice. Brody Peterson drove in Meyer, who reached on an error. Schreckenberg scored when Judd Davis reached on an error with two outs.

Following a single from Tim Kehren and a walk taken by Stark, the Eagles mounted a two-out rally in the fifth inning with RBI singles from Meyer and Schreckenberg. Meyer and Schreckenberg each scored when Brody Peterson reached on an error, the Tigers' sixth of game, to make the score 8-0.

Jim Holstein and Kehren each walked in the bottom of the sixth and both came around to score on singles from Bergmann and Meyer to enforce the 10-run rule and seal the victory.

Peterson pitched three innings in relief for New Ulm, allowing two hits and striking out three.

Jacob Torgerson started for the Tigers. He allowed seven runs, three earned, on six hits in 4 2/3 innings. Chandler Erickson came in in relief giving up three hits and three walks for three earned runs.
