Tiger baseball team wins 1st round, plays Montevideo Tuesday

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta baseball team defeated Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove 5-1 in the first round of sub-section 3AA action Saturday in Montevideo.

Next up for the Tigers will be the Thunder Hawks on their home field in Montevideo on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Montevideo shut out Redwood Valley 10-0.

The teams were scheduled to play Saturday, but the game was postponed due to rain.

Sam Mattson pitched a complete game, striking out eight.

The Tigers got on the board early with a run in the first inning, added another in the third to go up 2-0, and plated three runners in the fourth for the 5-1 final score.

The Tigers defeated the Montevideo 3-1 last week on Monte's field to deny the T-Hawks a share of the West Central Conference South title.
