Bendtsen leads Tigers' rebuilding year

Team awards were presented to (left to right) Isaak Kolstad - Rookie of the Year; Jacob Johnson - Tiger Award; Vaughn Dieter - Most Improved; and Roy Reese - Most Valuable Swimmer.

Coach Roscoe Bendtsen was at the helm of the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta boys' swimming and diving team for first time this season. The team's small numbers made it difficult for the Tigers to compete, but Bendtsen is not discouraged.

"This season was a building year," said Bendtsen. "We had a young team with a lot of new guys and only one senior on the team, but great leadership by the younger guys, especially junior captain Roy Reese and sophomore Vaughn Dieter.

"The team did an awesome job and it was definitely a great experience for me," added Bendtsen. "I'm really looking forward to next year and another awesome season.

"Even though our overall record doesn't look that great, the guys did a great job with sticking it out and doing their best, and although we might not have won any meets outright, we had many first- and second-place finishes every meet."

Throughout the season, the boys continually set new personal-best records in their events. The Tigers' season concluded with four participants at the Section 3A Swimming and Diving Meet Feb. 24 and 25.
