Cougar men rally to outscore Crown 85-74

A night after holding off a second half rally to secure the win, the University of Minnesota, Morris men's basketball team used a late surge of their own in taking an 85-74 win over Crown Saturday.

The Cougars trailed 40-36 at the break to the Storm and didn't take the lead for good until midway through the second half when Jeremy Burns capped a 6-0 run with a three-pointer at the 13:11 mark.

Burns went on to finish with a career-high 11 points, finishing as one of three players in double figures, while reaching the mark for the first time.

Derek Schmidt led the way once again, scoring a season-high 18, while Logan Orazem added 13 for his best game of the season.

The two teams traded baskets early in the second half, but the Cougars quickly began to chip away at the Storm lead, tying the game for the first time at 43-43 on a pair of Kyle Bruns free throws. Crown was able to go back on top, but after Morris finally took the lead just minutes later, they would not trail the rest of the way.

As the half wore on the Cougars stretched their lead to as much as 12, and saw it shrink to just a point with 3:55 to go following a Storm rally. After a timeout, Morris rattled off five straight to cruise the rest of the way for the win.

The Storm was led by David Glover with a game-high 24, one of four players to score in double figures.

The Cougars now sit in a pack of three teams with 2-1 records in conference play, all looking up at 3-0 Bethany Lutheran, who the Cougars get next in Morris this coming weekend
