Storm win at Red Lake Falls

The Storm traveled north Thursday, Dec. 8 to Red Lake Falls and a 6-2 victory made the long trip home bearable.

The Storm entered the game a little short handed with two of the captains out of action for the night. Kelly Engquist and Jordan Staples were out of the line up due to illness and injury, respectively.

The Storm coaches changed up the lines and brought up some junior varsity players to fill out the roster.

The first goal of the night went to Red Lake Falls at 4:06 of the first period. That was the only goal of the period.

The second period proved to be the best period of the season thus far by the Storm boys, who scored four goals in the second and shut out RLF.

Tanner Picht scored a power-play goal at 5:46 with an assist going to Mac Beyer. The second goal came from Tanner Kirkeide at 10:26 with an assist going to Corey Storck. Next it was Brody Gimberlin scoring for the Storm at 13:12 assisted by Luke Schwarz. The fourth goal came just 13 seconds later from Riley Blake, assisting on that goal were Beyer and Picht. The period ended with the Storm in control 4-1.

With the Storm clearly in control at the start of the third, Brody Gimberlin added his second goal of the game at 2:14 with an assist going to his brother, Taner Gimberlin. That goal widened the lead to four goals for the Storm. RLF did score a goal at 12:20 to keep their hope alive. Brody Gimberlin was able to complete his hat trick by scoring his third goal of the game at 14:58. This goal was the Gimberlin brother combo again.

Matt Huot was the winning goaltender for the Storm. Matt was credited with 21 saves while the RLF goalie made 36 saves.
