Storm boys compete with Spring Lake Park

The Morris Benson Area boys' hockey team battled Spring Lake Park at the Lee Community Center Thursday, Dec. 1 but came up on the short end of a very competitive hockey game 4-2.

Tanner Picht of the Storm scored the first goal of the game at 9:32 of the first period. The goal was the result of a long outlet pass from Jordan Staples setting up Picht for a break-away goal.

Spring Lake Park answered back with two goals just a few seconds apart at 3:40 and 3:27 of the first period.

In the second period Spring Lake Park added to their lead at 8:28 to increase their lead 3-1. The Storm battled back to make it a one-point game with just two seconds left in the period. The goal was scored by Luke Schwarz on a rebound from brother Chad Schwarz's slap shot. The goal narrowed the deficit to 3-2 at the end of the second period.

The third period brought about several opportunities for both teams. Only Spring Lake Park was able to convert the opportunities into a goal. The goal was scored at 12:22 of the third period.

Storm goalie, Paden Strutz, was credited with 28 saves while the Panther goalie stopped 24 shots.

Playing forward this year for the Storm are Kelly Engquist, Tanner Kirkeide, Luke Schwarz, Tanner Picht, Mac Beyer, Darion Helberg, Brody Gimberlin, Riley Blake, Corey Storck, and Taner Gimberlin. The Storm's defense consists of Jordan Staples, Andrew Rentz, Tanner Mikkelson, Chad Schwarz, and Lincoln Pahl.

Defending the goal for the varsity are Matt Huot and Paden Strutz.
