Cougar basketball season tips off tonight

The Cougar men's and women's basketball teams open up the 2011-12 seasons tonight on Jim Gremmels Court, hosting North Central University.

The women tip things off with the Rams first at 5:30 p.m., with the men set to follow at 7:30 p.m.

The Morris women are coming off back-to-back Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) championships, including a perfect 14-0 conference record last season on their way to a 21-7 overall mark. For the second straight year, their season ended in the NCAA Tournament, with a loss to Coe College.

The men were UMAC runners-up last season, posting a 10-4 conference record and a 15-12 overall tally. They finished their season in the UMAC Tournament championship game for the second straight season falling to champion Northwestern.

In the recent presesaon rankings, the Cougar women were selected for their third straight title, while the men were tabbed for a third-place finish.
