Hancock Legion team loses to WHN; defeats West Central

On Thursday, June 16, the Hancock Legion team traveled to Wheaton for and game and lost 3-2.

Hancock took the lead 1-0 in the first inning when Austin Steege led off with a single and advanced to second on a fielders choice by Collin Cunningham. He moved up to third on a hit by Luke Schwarz and scored on a fielders choice by Bryan Shaw.

Wheaton tied the game in the third, but Hancock took the lead back in the fourth. With two outs Danny Lonneman, Brady Koehl, and Bryce Wilson all singled with Danny scoring on Bryce's hit.

The score remained with 2-1 until the bottom of the sixth when Wheaton scored two runs to take a 3-2 lead. Hancock put two runners on in the seventh but were unable to tie the game.

Luke Schwarz pitched the complete game for Hancock. He gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits. He walked six and struck out six.

On June 27, Hancock took on West Central and won 10-0.

Hancock took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when, with two outs, Brendan Foss singled and scored on a double by Luke Schwarz. Luke then scored on a single by Bryan Shaw to make the score 2-0.

Hancock added three runs in the third inning when Brendan Foss reached on an error and scored on a double by Bryan Shaw. Bryan then scored on a triple by Anthony Berreau. Following a walk to Danny Lonneman, Brady Koehl singled to drive in Anthony for a 5-0 lead.

Hancock put the game away in the bottom of the 4th when they scored five more runs. Dylan Reese led off with a single and Brendan Foss reached on an error to put runners on first and second. Luke Schwarz then doubled in both runners. Anthony Berreau singled and stole second. He and Luke both scored on a single by Danny Lonneman. Danny then scored on an error to make the final score 10-0.

Brendan Foss pitched five innings for Hancock. He gave up 0 runs on one hit, walked three and struck out nine.

Hancock's record stands at 2-3 with league games against Minnewaska and Morris left to be played. Hancock also is scheduled to play Central Minnesota Christian on July 6.
