Tigers stay on top in WCC-South softball

Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta remains at the top of the West Central Conference South standings by defeating Benson/Hancock 4-3 Tuesday at home.

Benson/Hancock nearly beat the conference leaders after tying the game at 3-3 in the top half of the seventh inning. But the Tigers rallied back with Dani Schultz scoring the winning run with one out in the seventh. Schultz doubled and moved to third base on a passed ball before coming home on a misplayed flyball by Haley Scheldorf.

Mackenzie Jensen singled to lead off the Benson/Hancock seventh, stole second and third and scored on Kendra Schmidgall's groundout.

Mackenzie Weatherly struck out nine en route to earning a complete-game win for the Tigers.

Schultz paced the offense by collecting two RBI singles and a double in four at bats; Hannah Sayles was 1-for-3; Kelsey DeCamp was 2-for-3; and Courtney Ehleringer was 1-for-3.

Sara Rajewsky went 3-for-3 at the plate, while Jensen and Kelsey Hammerschmidt had two hits apiece for the BraveOwls.
