Torgerson, Comets head back to NAIA National Tournament

The Mayville State University baseball team went 5-1 to claim the North Star Athletic Conference Tournament last week. The Comets, ranked No. 22 in the nation, defeated Waldorf twice (14-5 and 9-3), Valley City State twice (5-4 and 9-6), and Jamestown (5-3) to earn a trip to the NAIA National Tournament in Oklahoma City Monday, May 15.

Torgerson (MSU Sports Information)The Comets are 46-10 on the season. Jacob Torgerson, a Morris native, is a senior reliever for Mayville State and is 7-1 on the season, earning two of those wins in the conference tournament last week. So far this season Torgerson has given up six runs on 29 hits in 41 innings pitched. He has struck out 28 batters. He has an ERA of 0.88 through 18 game appearances.

The Comets are the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will face No. 3 Campbellsville at 2:30 p.m. Monday. Other teams in Mayville State's bracket include No. 1 Oklahoma City, No. 4 Friends, and No. 5 College of Idaho.

Monday's schedule is:

#4 Friends vs. #5 College of Idaho – 11 a.m.

#2 Mayville State vs. #3 Campbellsville – 2:30 p.m.

Friends/Idaho winner vs. #1 Oklahoma City - 6 p.m.
