Storm boys dominate Redwood Valley

The Morris Benson Area boys dominated Redwood Valley on their way to a 9-1 win at the Benson Civic Center Tuesday. With the win the Storm bring their Southwest Conference record to 3-0, on the heels of the Marshall Tigers who are 4-0. Overall MBA is 6-3 on the year.

Tyler Hansen got the Storm on the scoreboard first with a short-handed goal assisted by Kelly Engquist and Tanner Picht midway through the opening period.

Consecutive power-play goals later in the period gave the Storm a 3-0 cushion after one. Engquist scored the first power-play goal assisted by Ethan Ratliff Crain and Luke Schwarz, and Luke picked up the second goal assisted by his brother Chad who picked up his first varsity point on the assist. Andrew Fath was again in goal for the Storm but save totals were not available for the game.

Another power-play goal, this one by Tanner Picht assisted by Mac Beyer, gave the Storm a 4-0 lead before Eric Hanson of the Cardinals scored their lone goal of the night.

Hansen scored unassisted and Brody Gimberlin picked up a goal assisted by Darion Helberg and Tanner Kirkeide to make the score 6-1 after two periods.

The same trio that closed the scoring in the second period struck again early in the third with Gimberlin picking up the goal again assisted by Helberg and Kirkeide. Hansen then completed his hat trick on the night with assists going to Picht and Beyer. Beyer closed out the scoring for the game with an assist from Hansen to make the final score 9-1.

The Storm takes on Worthington on Saturday at the Lee Community Center at p.m. and then has a rematch with Northern Lakes on Tuesday, again in Morris. Their busy week continues with a road game on Thursday against Prairie Centre, and they take on Windom on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 3 p.m. in Benson.
