Hancock Volleyball team defeats Wheaton

The Owls came out strong in game one and were really aggressive with their serving and hitting, winning the set 25-15.

The Warriors picked up their game and the Owls really struggled with their passing which made it hard for them to get any offense going and the Warriors won set two 25-20. The third set saw Wheaton take an early lead but the Owls were able to come back and the score went back and forth with each team fighting and the Owls were able to pull away with a 28-26 win. The Owls jumped out to a lead in game four and really just took control of the game and didn't let Wheaton get their offense going and the Owls won game four 25-14.

"I was extremely proud of all of these girls tonight," commented coach Kristi Fehr. "This was a big match against a real quality team, but even when we were struggling with our passing and offense the girls stayed composed and never had the mentality that they were not going to win the match.

"Give credit to Wheaton who really picked up their game after set one and played scrappy defense and really started to hit the ball well. I think the huge key for us was winning set three 28-26. Both teams were working hard for every point and we were able to find a way to get the win which gave us huge momentum going into set four, Fehr said"

Kendra Schmidgall had another big night coming away with 28 kills and 15 kills. Courtney Greiner came around after a frustrating set two and played a great match having 14 kills and three blocks. Lauren Nelson followed with eight kills and 15 digs. Alison Reese was a perfect 16 for 16 serving. Shae Brown had eight digs, Illissa Koehl 10 and Abby Ascheman had one block.

Aria Walstad was named player of the game by the radio and she had a great night. She really played a smart match and set the ball very well to our hitters. She had 38 assists and was 19 for 19 serving.

This brings the Owls record to 20-1 and 5-0 in conference play. The Owls travel to Parkers Prairie on Thursday for a big section match.
