Hancock Volleyball captains interviewed

The Hancock Owls 2010 volleyball season is off to another good year. The Owls have good leadership this year on the court. The three captains are Aria Walstad, Lauren Nelson and Kendra Schmidgall. Their record so far is 19-1.

Walstad said she has been playing volleyball since 7th grade and is thinking the season will go really good and it will be fun.

Walstad said, "The toughest team this year in our section is Parkers Prairie because they have good hitters and experienced players."

She is most looking forward to doing really well and going to state! Walstad 's favorite volleyball memory is beating Benson in the Minnewaska tourney in September.

Nelson has also been playing volleyball since 7th grade and thinks the season is going to be awesome. She feels strongly that the Hancock Owls will go to state. Nelson thinks the toughest team will be Parkers Prairie because they went to state last year and they did not lose very many seniors. She is most looking forward to going to state this season. Nelson 's favorite volleyball memory is almost beating BBE in 2009.

Schmidgall is the only junior team captain this year. She has been playing volleyball since she was in 6th grade. Schmidgall's most favorite memory was getting first place in the Minnewaska tournament. She thinks the Owls are going to have a great season.

"We all work together very well and we are already 19-1," she says.

Schmidgall thinks the toughest team this year will be Wheaton because they have quite a bit of experience. Schmidgall said she is looking forward to having a successful season and she loves being with the girls everyday and working together.

This year's homecoming game against Ortonville took place on Thursday, Sept. 23, and was a major win for the Hancock Owls. The scores were 25-10, 25-8, 25-6. The Lady Owls took on West Central Area Monday, Sept. 27 and beat them in four games. On Tuesday Sept. 28, the Lady Owls took on CGB and beat them in three games.

The Hancock girls had a tournament Saturday, Oct. 2 and they beat Breckenridge for the championship game. "The highlight of the tournament was winning the championship and beating Morris," stated captain Lauren Nelson. The next home game is Thursday, Oct. 7 against the Wheaton Warriors. The girls really enjoy when the public comes out to support and cheer them on.
