Hancock Football team struggles at Graceville

On Friday afternoon, the Hancock Owls football team traveled to Graceville to take on the Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley Wolverines. It was a long day for the Owls as they came up on the short end, 66-14.

On CGB's opening drive they scored from 56 yards out on a run. CGB would score three more times in the first quarter to take a 32-0 lead. In the second quarter the Owls were able to start moving the ball on a tough CGB defense. With 1:40 left in the half the Owls took the ball. On the second play of the drive Taylor Holleman would find Jordan Miller for 40 yards. This set up a 10 yard touchdown pass from Holleman to Austin Steege on an amazing catch near the sideline. The two point conversion failed. CBG scored three times in the quarter to give them a 52-6 halftime advantage.

To start the second half the Hancock received the ball and on their first play from scrimmage a CGB lineman made a very athletic play to intercept the ball and ran it in for a touchdown. The Owls would score on a 15 yard run by Steege. Holleman would then find Steege on a successful two point conversion.

Going into the final quarter CGB led 58-14. The Wolverines scored late in the fourth to end the game.

"This was one of those games where anything that could go wrong did go wrong," said coach Chad Christianson. "We were minus in the turnover margin and struggled running the ball. We were missing one of our linebackers for this game and had some young guys in new positions. Hopefully, we can look at this game and learn from it and get ready for a very good Brandon/ Evansville team this week."
