Eagle Valley defeats Owls football team in season opener

The Owls football team opened their season in Eagle Bend against the Eagle Valley Rebels Friday night. The Owls ran into a tough Rebel squad.

With four and a half left in the first quarter, Eagle Valley was first to strike pay dirt, the two point conversion failed. At the end of the first the Owls found themselves down 6-0.

The Owls continued to struggle moving the ball in the second quarter. Hancock's defense stayed tough, but with a short field the Rebels scored early in the second quarter to make it 14-0. Both teams exchanged turnovers then at the six minute mark the Rebels found the end zone again.

Eagle Valley continued to cause problems for the Owls by scoring three more times before the end of the half and keeping Hancock out of the end zone.

The Owls were able to move the ball in the second half, but turnovers would be their demise and kept them out of the end zone for the night. Eagle Valley scored three more times in the second half to get us to the final score of 48-0.

"Looking at the game, we got to see some areas that we are going to really need to work on, but we also got to see some things that we can build on for next week." said coach Chad Christianson. "We made too many mental mistakes and turned the ball over way too much. If we can take away the big play and control the ball I think that we will be alright moving forward."

The Owls are at home Friday against Chokio-Alberta-Herman-Norcross.
