Defending Class AAA champion New London-Spicer scored 20 straight points to clip Morris 20-14 in the season-opening football game for both teams Friday night.

The Wildcats trailed 7-0 after Ryan Beyer connected on a 37-yard pass play to Cody Cannon for a touchdown with eight seconds left in the first quarter.

But New London-Spicer marched down the field in the second half, capping the drive with a long pass play of its own, a 37-yarder from Jayme Moten to Tanner Tobkin. The extra point failed, and the Wildcats went into halftime with a 7-6 deficit.

The action didn't heat up in the third quarter, but got really hot in the fourth.

Moten scored on a one-yard run, then on the Wildcats' next possession, Ronnie Johnson broke away for a 55-yard TD for a 20-7 lead.

Morris scored with just under eight minutes left on a seven-yard run by Beyer.

Johnson led the Wildcats with 86 rushing yards. The Wildcats pounded out 214 on the ground, much of it in the second half.

Tyler Hansen had 78 yards rushing for Morris.
