Benson Hancock softball season wraps up

Redwood Valley 3 Benson-Hancock 1

In what amounted to the finals of the Section 3AA losers bracket, Redwood Valley scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning enroute to a 3-1 win over the Brave Owls.

The game was played with the winner receiving the right to go up against Pipestone. The Arrows are in the finals of the winners bracket with the winner advancing to the state tournament in Mankato this weekend.

Benson-Hancock scored its lone run in the top of the second inning on a lead off walk to Brennan Hagen, a stolen base by pinch runner Mackenzie Jensen and a run scoring double by Julia Ahrndt. The Brave Owls could muster little in the way of offensive opportunities with the exception of Tasha Wiebold and Mallory Jensen who had two hits each, accounting for the rest of the hits.

Redwood Valley scored an unearned run in the third on a base hit, a sacrifice bunt and an error by shortstop Megan Jepma. Two Taylor Semler walks in the fifth followed by two hits, the last one coming with the bases loaded, spelled the end of the Brave Owls' season. The team finished with a 17-6 record.
