Hancock Girls defeat KMS in home game

The Hancock Lady Owls basketball team defeated Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 83-52 on Feb. 5 in Hancock.

The 83 points was a season record and nine Hancock players reached the scoring column. Three players scored in double figures.

"I was pleased with our overall team shooting percentage of 48 percent (30 of 62) on the night and the 82 percent (18 of 22) performance from the charity stripe," said coach Jodi Holleman.

Defensively, Hancock's presses worked well in the opening half. The Lady Owls had 14 of their 18 steals in the first half.

"The girls did a great job of anticipating passes," Holleman said. "We did not press in the second half and concentrated on our half-court defenses. I was disappointed that we gave up a season-high 52 points in this game. As a team, we were holding our opponents to an average of 39 points," she said. "The girls looked fundamentally sound as we only had 10 turnovers on the night."

Holleman issued special thanks to all of the team's sponsors of the basketballs that have been thrown out at the home basketball games thus far as follows:

Montevideo - The Cutting Edge

Ortonville - Kim Wolf & DJ Entertainment

Maccray - Trico Ag Service (postponed)

CGB - 1st American State Bank of Minnesota

KMS - Hancock Co-op
