Cougars split matches on the road

The University of Minnesota, Morris volleyball team was 1-1 on the road over the weekend.

The Cougars lost a close five-game set against Martin Luther Friday (23-25, 28-26, 25-17, 19-25, 15-9), but swept Bethany Lutheran in three Saturday (28-26, 25-20, 25-23).

The split placed the Cougars in fourth place in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and sets up a match with No. 1 seed Northwestern College.

Megan Theis led the Cougars with 11 kills, while Stephanie Schmiesing and Allie Humphrey recorded nine apiece.

Natalie Thomas contributed 38 assists.

Brita Humphrey led the team with 15 digs, Jordan Olerud had 13, Jen Bissel added 12, and Thomas recorded 10.

Bethany Lutheran 0

Schmiesing had a team-high 12 kills, while Theis added 10 and Allie Humphrey contributed seven.

Thomas also recorded 34 assists.

Brita Humphrey was credited with 20 digs, Sam Pfannenstein added 12, and Olerud recorded 10.
