Hancock Volleyball team defeats D-B & CGB

By Kristi Fehr

The Owl volleyball team had two road matches last week, traveling to Dawson-Boyd and CGB, and came away with two more victories. On Tuesday, the Owls played Dawson-Boyd and dominated all three matches from start to finish with scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-6. Hancock set the pace of the game with its consistent serving and agressive net play. Bree Holleman had a great serving night going 27-27 with 3 aces and also having 6 kills and 2 ace blocks. Lindsie Cunningham played solid defense with 6 digs and serving 7-7. Kendra Schmidgall led the team with 11 kills and had 1 ace block and Lauren Nelson was a big factor at the net with 4 ace blocks and 3 kills. Aria Walstad dished out 18 set assists.

On Thursday, Hancock traveled to Graceville to play a conference match against CGB. Although both teams started flat the Owls picked up their game and gained control of the momentum winning in three games with scores of 25-17, 25-16, 25-15. Schmidgall had 15 kills and 2 aces serves. Holleman served 17-17 with 1 ace along with 5 kills. Alison Reese served 12-12 with 1 ace and Walstad was 9-9 serving along with 23 set assists. Vanessa Anderson played steady in the backrow recording 2 digs and Cunningham had 4 digs along with 4 ace serves. Hancock's middles again played a great match by getting its opponents of their offense with strong blocking. Schmidgall had 5 kills and 3 ace blocks and Courtney Greiner had 3 kills and 1 ace block. These girls have been playing very good volleyball and are really working together as a team. Their only losses this season are against teams that are either 2A schools or ranked in state and they held their own in all of these matches (Sauk Centre, BBE, New London Spicer). "They are a fun group to coach and I am proud of the way they are playing. Thursday we have a long awaited home match against conference rivals CAHN" coach Kristi Fehr said. The Owls are now 10-3-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
