Gramm named defensive player of the week

Minnesota State Fergus Falls Spartan football player Tanner Gramm has been named

the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) Southern Division

Defensive Player of the Week. Gramm is a sophomore from Hancock and plays an inside linebacker position for the Spartans.

Gramm received the honors for his efforts in the Spartans' win this past

Saturday over Fond du Lac. The Spartans won the game 36-21 with Gramm

playing a big role in the victory.

For the day he had seven solo tackles, five assisted tackles, one tackle for a

loss, one quarterback sack, and forced a fumble. He also intercepted two

passes, returning the first 50 yards to the opponent's 18-yard line.

The next interception, he returned 50 yards for a touchdown.

Gramm was also selected as a captain for the 2009 Spartan football

squad. The Spartans are 1-1 on the season and travel to Thief River

Falls on Saturday to play Northland Community and Technical College.

Game time is 1:30 p.m. The Spartans return home on Septe. 19 to

play Vermillion in the Homecoming game. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
