Hancock faces several AAAA and AAA schools

In the fourth round, we were matched up against Class AAA Benilde-St. Margaret's and lost a hard fought battle by a score of 59-68. The Owls trailed 12-15 at the end of the first quarter, 26-34 at halftime, 37-46 at the end of the third quarter and finished with a score of 59-68. This was an exciting game from start to finish with the Lady Owls playing with a ton of heart and determination.

Comments: It was great to see the Owls connect from 3-point land in this game as we hit 10 treys against the BSM swarming M-M defense. (Bree knocked down 6 treys and Lindsie knocked down 4). Courtney Greiner came in off the bench and added a spark scoring 7 points and pulling down 4 rebounds. The highlight of the game was a huge bucket on the baseline by Serandon Bigalke to close the gap. We were within striking distance in the final 1:30 minutes as we were only down by five points. We just couldn't get a shot to drop and were forced to foul. BSM was able to cash in on their free-throws down the stretch. The three seniors (Bree, Lindsie, and Kaylee) showed a ton of leadership throughout the entire tournament. Kaylee Voorhees is coming off an ACL injury and made huge strides this summer. She always manages to get that key rebound or the hustle points. The Juniors (Lauren, Illissa, and Aria) were rock solid and confident in this tournament. The sophomores (Shae, Kendra, Abby, Olivia, and Tara) gained some quality varsity minutes and showed me that they are all ready to step in and play varsity this upcoming season. The Rookies (Serandon, Courtney, and Sami) played with a lot of heart and hustle.

I was also very pleased with the coaches, Mark and Kim. They got 13 girls into this championship game and almost got the "Win". I was very impressed with the 2-2 overall-record in this elite tournament. The Class A girls showed that they can play basketball with anyone.

I feel very lucky and blessed that I had the opportunity to work with these 14 girls this summer. They are all classy young ladies and gave me 110% the entire summer. Our theme this year at camp was "Champions are made in the off-season". These girls know what it takes to be champions. We are always hoping that we are doing MORE than all the other girls in the State. I don't know how many coaches can brag that their girls participated in the following basketball activities this past summer:

1. Alex League (two teams, two games EACH on Monday nights).

2. Practice every Wednesday night.

3. Owl Basketball Camp (Many girls participated 6 hours per day).

4. Dribbling Camp (15 hours of dribbling/shooting).

5. Pacesetter tourney at NLS (2nd place finish).

6. Pacesetter tourney at UMM - June (1st place finish)

7. Pacesetter tourney at UMM - July (2nd place finish)

8. JV Pacesetter tourney at UMM - July (2nd place finish)

9. Strength and Agility Training (20 sessions) -Bree, Serandon, Shae, Abby, Courtney, Sami

10. Elite Camp (Lindsie, Bree, Kendra)

11. AAU Basketball (Serandon/Bree)

12. Sweet Sixteen Tournament - (2 wins and 2 losses)

13. Numerous other practices preparing for these tournaments. Including 3 hour practices the week of the Sweet 16.

The sky is the limit for these girls if they get in the weight-room between now and the start of the 2009-2010 season. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication. Good Luck with your Fall sports!

P.S. Get your travel suits paid for before the first day of school. The team shoes should arrive in September.
