Morris VFW shuts out Alexandria II

Morris VFW Post 5039 improved to 7-2 in District 5 play, and to 9-3 overall, with a 10-0 five-inning win over Alexandria II Friday in Morris.

Travis Rinkenberger went four innings to pick up the win with Ethan Bruer completing the shutout with a scoreless fifth inning.

Morris scored in all four innings that they came to the plate, scoring three in the first, two each in the second and third, and four more in the fourth.

Alex Erickson led off the game with a single, advanced to second on a ground out, and scored on a Ryan Beyer single. Beyer advanced to third on an Eric Riley single and Brady Valnes scored both runners with a triple to right center field and the early 3-0 lead.

Ethan Bruer singled to lead off the second inning, stole second, and scored on an Erickson single. Erickson eventually came around to score on a wild pitch.

Singles by Cole Riley, Mitch Kill, and Bruer, and a double by Erickson, led to the two runs scored by Post 5039 in the third inning.

In the fourth, Beyer singled and came around on an E. Riley triple and Riley scored on a Valnes double. Valnes then scored the 10th run of the night on an error and a wild pitch.

Morris also won the second game, this one by a score of 8-4. Bruer, Kill, Valnes, and C. Riley handled the pitching in this game with Kill picking up the win.

Brody Bahr and Travis Rinkenberger each had two hits in the game while Cody Hickman, Taylor Hufford, Bruer, E. Riley, Erickson, and Beyer each had one.

Hufford drove in two runs and Dan Kolden reached base all three times that he came to the plate, scoring once.
