Storm ready to rebuild again

The 2008-09 Storm boys' hockey team is rebuilding again this year, but third-year coach Jim Kennedy has high expectations.

"Again this year, we have a young team," said Kennedy. "It will be a good year. They're all good kids, which is important when you want to build a varsity team."

The roster consists of nine seniors including goalie Will Johnson, Dustin Sauter, Peter Lindblad, Brook Guest, and Mike Morales.

"This senior group has been together since day one as sophomores," said Kennedy.

Adding to the list of seniors this season are four foreign exchange students, Andrea Siggelin, Timo Widmann, Sampsa Purojarvi, and Juho Luhtakanta.

"They're good kids and are good for our team," said Kennedy. "They're learning from our players and we're learning from them, as well."

Juniors include Alex Sinclair, Jake Manska, Thomas Horecka, and Josh Taylor. Joe Orr would have been a junior on this year's team, but will miss the entire season with a shoulder injury.

Sophomores are Andrew Fath, Ethan Ratliff-Crain, Brady Valnes, Tristan Michealson, and Tyler Hansen. Hansen and Valnes have varsity experience.

Kennedy is assisted by Chris Dobis. Lindblad led the team last season with 14 goals and 13 assists.

Hansen was third in total points with 12, while Sauter and Orr both had eight points.

Kennedy expects Prairie Centre and Wadena to be tough rivals in the section. Other strong teams will be Litchfield and Northern Lights.

Last season's 7-16-1 team lost six players to graduation. They are Jordan Lee, Mikey Siegel, Travis Dingmann, Ross Benjamin, Jake Mesenbrink, and foreign exchange student Otto Purhonen.
