BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference released its 2014 Cross Country Preseason Poll on Tuesday, Aug. 26. The men's program at Minnesota State University Moorhead was chosen sixth, receiving 92 points and the women's program was ranked fifth, receiving 135 points.

The NSIC also named two athletes to watch from each school in the conference, one from the men's and women's teams. Senior Jason Dowell (Wheaton, Ill.) and junior Molly Montonye (Graceville, Minn.) were both chosen for the Dragons. Dowell won two individual titles last season at the Randy Smith Invitational and the Jimmie Invitational. From his success, Dowell earned second team All-Conference honors.

Montonye led the women's team to a fifth place finish at the NSIC Championships and took home her own individual title at the Randy Smith Invitational. Montonye received first team All-Conference honors for her performance.

The Dragon men return valuable experience to this season's team, returning its top nine runners. Sophomores Brady Speicher (Perham, Minn.) and Jacob Jankowski (Forest Lake, Minn.) each earned one top-10 finish at meets last season. Sophomore Cody Christ (Dazey, North Dakota) joins seniors Spencer Ruebke (Ada, Minn.) and Nick Anderson (Redwood Falls, Minn.) as the captains for this year's team.

The Dragon women also return experienced runners from last year's team. In addition to Montonye, sophomore MaKenzie Smith (Donnelly, Minn.) finished in the top 10 in two meets last season and senior Savannah Link (Bismarck, North Dakota) finished in the top 10 in one meet. Montonye and Link will serve as the captains for this year's team.
