UMM Sports Information

The University of Minnesota, Morris could not keep up with the St. Scholastica bats on Friday or Saturday, falling in the three game series to the Saints. Scott Peterson had two hits and increased his batting average to .302 on the year on Friday afternoon. St Scholastica was the home team in the series because it was supposed to be played in Duluth.

In the first game of the series, the Saints struck early and often, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. They added two more in the bottom of the second to increase their lead to five. Morris cut the lead to four in the top of the third, but CSS put the game away in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of a couple UMM errors to score nine runs, seven unearned to take a 14-1 lead.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Morris plated three runs. Cody Reinke doubled down the left field line to score Eric Terres. Kylan Hill then singled to left as Jake Schmitz and Reinke scored. St. Scholastica responded with three runs of their own, increasing their lead back to 13. Each team added a run in the sixth making the final score 18-5.

On Saturday, in their final home doubleheader of the year, the Cougars were unable to pick up a victory, falling 10-0 and 12-4 to St. Scholastica.

Morris was only able to manage three hits in game one as the CSS starter held them in check throughout the game. Offensively for the Saints, they did their scoring in small bunches never scoring more than three in an inning. Schmitz, Reinke and Devin Waldvogel had the hits for the Cougars.

St. Scholastica scored 12 runs in the second game before Morris could get on the board. The Cougars avoided the ten run rule by rallying for four runs in the top of the seventh. Donnie Mavencamp had a two run single to break the shutout. Kyle Grote added an RBI single and Terres had a sac fly in the inning.
