Ukkelberg makes second best in UMM history

The University of Minnesota, Morris track and field team competed at the Northern State Invitational in Aberdeen on Friday, April 18.

Also in action was Alex Ukkelberg who competed at the Phil Esten Challenge in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on Thursday and Friday, taking part in the decathlon. He finished with 5,639 points, the second most in school history, earning him a spot as the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week. On Friday, Ukkelberg took fourth in the shotput with a mark of 11.47m and fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.76m. On Saturday, he had the best mark in the javelin with a throw of 47.83m and was third in the discus with a toss of 38.24m.

The rest of the track and field team competed in Aberdeen.

Tori Holt was third in the shot put, beating out four Division II throwers with a heave of 12.04m. Evan Guffey was third in the long jump after jumping 6.48m.

Kaitlin Kamm won the high jump after jumping 1.57m; she was also third in the 100m hurdles.

Ryan DeRoeck and Rob Reller finished two, three in the men's high jump. DeRoeck took third in the 400m and tied for third in the 110m hurdles.

Whitney White and Kali Damus finished two, three in the women's pole vault. White had a height of 2.90m in the meet.

Linda Keller just missed out on winning the 1500m run finishing just 1.5 seconds behind the winner. Keller also took second in the 800m on Friday. Chalmer Combellick just missed out on winning in the 1500m as well, taking second by .1 seconds, but he did win the 800m by over three seconds.

Nathan Harder won the 110m hurdles, finishing .14 seconds ahead of his seed time. Leandro Dower took third in the 200m dash in a time of 23.14.

Rachel Wingenbach was third in the 3000m run, finishing in a time of 11:26.53. In the men's 3000m run Caleb Schneider was third in a time of 9:47.59.

Next up is the Drake Alternative in St. Peter, then UMM hosts the UMAC Championships on Saturday, May 3, starting at noon.
