Big inning propels Cougars

Minnesota Morris split a pair of games with the Concordia Moorhead Cobbers on Sunday, March 30. The Cougars won game one 10-1 in five innings, UMM scored nine runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Cobbers won game two 6-4, thanks to a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

In game one, the Cougars jumped out a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning as Alex Anderson singled and stole three bases. Concordia tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a solo homerun.

In the top of the fifth inning the first five players reached base and scored. Gina Downie had a two RBI single, the Cougars biggest hit in the inning as Morris put the Cobbers away.

The second game was more competitive and featured the Cobbers grabbing the lead early. Morris tied it back up in the top of the third but Concordia quickly responded. They scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead.

Morris tied the game in the top of the fifth inning. Alex Anderson had a single and stole a couple bases, and scored on a fielder's choice. An error and double by Molly Olson allowed the Cougars to tie the game.

Concordia took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two run homer, making it 6-4. The Cobbers held on to the lead despite the Cougars threatening in the sixth inning, leaving a pair of runners on.
