Cougar women open with win over Trinity

The University of Minnesota, Morris women's basketball team got their season started in style with a 84-25 win over Trinity Bible on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Brooke Decker led the team in her first college basketball game with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Kayla Kraemer, Kendra Wycoff and Emily Auch also scored in double-digits.

The Cougars shot 43.1 percent from the field and forced 22 turnovers in the win. They held the Lions to just 13.8 percent shooting, hitting just eight shots all game.

Abby Fragodt had 13 rebounds, six offensive and seven defensive. Tori Holt had 10 rebounds and six points.

The Minnesota Morris bench scored 45 points for the Cougars. Jordan Zickermann had five steals in 18 points off the bench.

Twelve different Cougars scored in the game.

Morris held a 28-8 advantage in the paint and a 12-2 advantage in second-chance points.

UMM started the game with a 16-0 run and did not give up a point until the 9:25 point mark in the first half. They never let the Lions get any closer than 13 the rest of the game and took a 36-15 lead into the halftime break.

Morris scored the first six points in the second half and outscored Trinity 48-10 in the second 20 minutes. In the first six and a half minutes of the second half the Cougars outscored the Lions 19-2.
