Six Cougars named UMAC All-Conference
The University of Minnesota Morris Cross Country team competed at the UMAC Championships today. The women finished in second place and the men in third. Leading the way for the men was Chalmer Combellick and on the women's side, Amanda Peters.
Combellick finished second place and ran a 27:16.4, which bested his sixth place finish last year at the UMAC Championships. Freshman, Caleb Schneider finished in eighth place and ran a 28:33.7. Charles Abraham finished 18 while running a 29:02.7. This is Abraham's second-best finish at the UMAC Championships. Other notables include: Declan McCrory who ran a 29:33.4 (placed 26), Kyle Billet with a 29:42.4 (placed 29), and Martin Zais who ran a 29:45.4 (placed 31). This was McCrory's personal best by just two seconds.
On the woman's side, Peters finished in fifth place and ran a 24:03.3. This is a personal best finish for Peters. She placed eighth in last years UMAC Championship. Following her was Laura Borkenhagen and Rachel Wingenbach. Borkenhagen finished in 12th place and ran a 24:42.8. Coming in right after was Wingenbach who finished in 13th place while running a personal best 24:43.9. Maddy Gehrig also finished 17th (25:24.4). Nicole Deziel and Tanna Boyle both ran a 25:35.7 and finished in 20th.
The Cougars had six cross country runners honored by the UMAC Monday night for their efforts on Saturday in the UMAC Championships. Both the men and women had three runners honored.
Peters and Borkenhagen were All-Conference runners on the women's side. Julie Bonham was the Cougars representative on the women's All-Sportsmanship Team.
On the men's side, Combellick and Schneider were named the All-Conference runners. Spencer Walton was the representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
