Legislative Update: Rep. Torrey Westrom

Rep. Torrey Westrom

The Voter ID bill was heard in the House Government Operations Committee this week. It will let citizens vote on whether or not they want voter ID passed into a law in the state of Minnesota. There is no reason that we shouldn't let our citizens vote on whether or not they want Voter ID. This type of technology would modernize our election system and bring us into the 21st century. We use photo ID's for other things like airports, at colleges etc. This legislation would also conform to the Supreme Court in that free ID's would be available to those who do not have the proper photo ID already.

MSNBC posted an article regarding the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the Voter ID law in Indiana in 2008. You can find the full story here.

Voter ID is a very reasonable measure to handle elections with, and will help to restore integrity in our voting process.

The Minnesota Department of Commerce has many tools for our military families. I would encourage all of our military families to visit this website and see how it can be of help.

Many of our bills this year were formed by traveling the state and talking to local government and small business leaders on how we can make growing jobs in our state more efficient. Reform 2.0 is the initiative that many of our government reform bills fall under. Each of these bills can be tracked at our Reform 2.0 website,
