Changes announced for Hancock Record, Morris Sun Tribune
The Hancock Record and the Morris Sun Tribune will combine print editions, beginning in June.
The new weekly publication will be called, The Stevens County Times, Morris Sun Tribune/Hancock Record, and the first edition will be published June 17.
The Sun Tribune and the Hancock Record will continue to publish on their current schedule through June 10. With this combined publication, the Morris Ad-Viser, the free shopper, will be discontinued on June 10.
Economic concerns are the main reasons for the change, according to publisher Sue Dieter.
“Print advertising revenue has been declining for some time while newsprint costs have continued to increase. We simply have to change how we operate our business to remain profitable.”
According to Dieter, Forum Communications Co., which owns both newspapers, has researched ways to cut expenses without affecting the quality of the news. It was determined that combining these two publications was the answer.
Breaking and spot news and sports stories will continue to be posted online.
"Our job is to provide current, accurate and reliable information to the community. We will continue to do that, through our website and our new publication,” Dieter added.
More on the changes can be found in Dieter’s column.
